Things to Do in the South Downs
Swan Barn Farm
A National Trust area (that’s free for everyone), you can enjoy a one-hour wander through meadows, past a medieval dipping well, through woodlands and orchards. The circular walk (1.75 miles) starts in the quaint historic town of Haslemere, making it one of the easy-to-reach things to do in the South Downs. Open all year.
Black Down Temple of Winds WalkÂ
This picturesque one-hour walk (two miles) takes in the national park’s highest point at Black Down with far-reaching views below. Follow in poet Tennyson’s footsteps and walk to a Bronze Age site, the Temple of the Winds. It’s one of the most scenic things to do in the South Downs. Open all year.
Seven Sisters Country Park
 Walk up the undulating white chalk cliffs that the Sussex coastline is famous for. There are 280 hectares to explore on foot, bike and on the waves for paddleboarders and kayakers. You can jump on the bus at several sections and get yourself to Brighton or Eastbourne. Open all year.

Historical Things to Do in the South Downs
Butser Ancient Farm
For history buffs and archaeological fans, this is one of the top things to do in the South Downs. You can walk through time and visit reconstructed settlements and buildings from the Stone Age, Iron Age, Roman times and the Anglo-Saxon period. Viewers of Horrible Histories might recognise the Roman Britain exhibition. Check their website for opening times.
Arundel Castle
Perched on a vantage point with wide-reaching views across the South Downs is the striking Arundel Castle. Spanning 1,000 years since its Norman foundations, you can see the different epochs of Arundel Castle as it has been altered through time. Kids can dress up in costumes, there are walks around the stunning gardens and you walk through the furnished state rooms. One of the best things to do in the South Downs.
